#TeamSeas – MAKING OCEANS BLUE AGAIN!

Following on from a successful campaign with #TeamTrees, where we managed to plant 11,128 trees, DVS are delighted to announce our support of #TeamSeas. Getting involved in another viral campaign? Shell yeah.

Did you know that there are over 5 trillion pieces of plastic in our oceans? This is largely due to the fact that 33% of the plastic manufactured worldwide is used just ONCE then is discarded – often ending up in our waters.

This is why, at DVS, we are putting our flippers on and getting involved in the fight for a more sustainable future with #TeamSeas as well as making it as easy as possible for YOU to do so, too. From the 1st of November, for every online order, we will donate $1 which will remove 1 pound of plastic and waste from the oceans, beaches and rivers across the world – amazing!

HOW DOES #TeamSeas WORK?

The ultimate goal of #TeamSeas is to remove 30 million pounds of plastic and waste from the oceans. In order to do this, #TeamSeas will also need to address the issues on our beaches and rivers, which both lead to the ocean.

Financially, #TeamSeas must raise $30 million – this will then be split between two not for profit organisations: Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup.

Both of these organisations are extremely passionate about keeping our marine eco-systems healthy and are specialists in the extraction and management of plastic and waste.

WHERE DOES THE WASTE/PLASTIC GO WHEN EXTRACTED?

Once the plastic and waste has been extracted, typically it is recycled and/or transformed into durable apparel products. The Ocean Cleanup, for example, has its own products page which puts 100% of the proceeds BACK into clearing more of the oceans. This is also the case with other organisations, such as Parley Ocean Plastic, who have worked alongside Selfridges and Adidas to synergise apparel and sustainability in order to protect our eco-systems.

“We're thrilled to be part of #TeamSeas, we really are. After a great success with #TeamTrees, it makes perfect sense to get involved and help out with our planet once more. We have all seen the images of small ocean wildlife trapped in discarded plastic beer rings, it's never nice to see. It's a no-brainer, really - how could DVS not support #TeamSeas?”
